  • Sunny (Yoon Sun) Kim is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music of the University of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to her current position, Sunny was Assistant Professor in Applied Music Studies at the Dongah Institute of Media and Arts (South Korea). She also held academic positions at Hanyang University (Korea), Howon University (Korea), Seoul Institute of Arts (Korea), Danguk University (Korea), and Soongshil University (Korea). She completed a MM in Jazz Studies at the New England Conservatory (Boston, USA) and BM in Jazz Studies at the Lamont School of Music of the University of Denver (USA) under supervision and mentorship by Bob Moses, Dominique Made, Jerry Bergonzi, Steve Lacy, Frank Carlberg, Ran Blake, Charlie Banacos and Marguerite Juenemann. Sunny has performed and recorded with many internationally renowned musicians such as Ben Monder, Roswell Rudd, Dave Douglas, Trevor Dunn and Pheeroan Aklaff. She has also collaborated with Korean contemporary traditional painter Sun Doo Kim, dancer and choreographer Sung Yong Kim and photographer Sung Hyun Sohn in multi-disciplinary works. As a leader she has released four records; Android Ascension (2008), Painter's Eye (2012), The Shining Sea (2014), and The Dream of the Earth (2016). She as also released a number of albums in collective projects such as After Dark (2004). Pranam (2006), Keep Your Heart Right (2008) and White With Foam (2009).
