  • Dr Heather Benbow is the convenor of German Studies. She received her PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2003. She has published widely on German, European and Australian topics in cultural, gender and food studies and the history of ideas, including in leading international journals. Her latest book, Marriage in Turkish German Popular Culture: States of Matrimony in the New Millennium, was published in 2015. Her recent research has focused on food and culture with a particular emphasis on food and intercultural contact and food in war time. She has been an invited researcher at the Free University of Berlin, the University of Cambridge and the University of Tübingen. She has experience supervising PhD students on topics in literature, film studies and food studies.
