Dr Anthony Schache is a part-time Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Melbourne.
Dr Schache completed his undergraduate physiotherapy training at the University of Melbourne in 1994. He then completed a Postgraduate Scholarship in Physiotherapy within the Centre for Sports Sciences and Sports Medicine at the Australian Institute of Sport in 1996. From 1998 to 2003, Dr Schache completed his doctoral studies at the University of Melbourne investigating the three dimensional angular kinematics of the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex during running. Following completion of his PhD, Dr Schache then undertook a three year post-doctoral research position in the Hugh Williamson Gait Laboratory at the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

Biomechanics of normal and pathological human locomotion:
- Effect of pain and/or pathology on gait biomechanics eg knee joint osteoarthritis
- Biomechanics of running
- Biomechanical predictors of running injuries
- Biomechanical effects of modifications to foot-ground interface eg. effect of surfaces of differing mechanical characteristics, effect of shoes, effect of foot insert/orthotic interventions
- Biomechanical determinants of cerebral palsy gait
Quantitative gait analysis:
- Implementation of anatomical information for customized musculoskeletal models
- Measurement variability
- Data interpretation and clinical usefulness
