Biography
A/Prof McCrory is a neurologist and sports physician whose research is concerned with prevention and management of common musculoskeletal and sports medical conditions. He received his medical undergraduate degree from the University of Melbourne in 1983. After hospital residency, he completed his specialty training in both internal medicine and neurology. Following completion of his specialty training, he achieved Fellowship of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Australasian College of Sports Physicians as well as formal qualification as a Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine physician from the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In addition to hospital training, Dr McCrory also has worked as team physician from 1984 to 1997 to the Collingwood Football Club (Australian rules football). After hospital Fellowship appointments in clinical neurology and related research areas, he entered private neurology practice in 1993. In 2000, he completed a PhD through the University of Melbourne. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications and 25 book chapters, has been a keynote speaker at national and international medical conferences and has received a number of competitive grants. He has won numerous awards, including the Syntex Clinical Investigator of the year for outstanding achievement and excellence in biomedical research. He currently holds an NHMRC Career Development Award and previously held an NHMRC Clinical Research Fellowship. A/Prof McCrory is the Director of CHESM, a multidisciplinary Faculty Centre that conducts world class research and education in the area of physical activity, exercise and sports medicine. Since 1996, he has supervised a large number of research higher degree student completions and has obtained a number of national and international competitive grants. He currently works as a consultant neurologist at Box Hill, William Angliss and Maroondah Hospitals and in clinical research as an Associate Professor and Director of Neurotrauma Research at the Brain Research Institute as well as at the Centre for Health, Exercise & Sports Medicine at the University of Melbourne.
