Biography

While Dr. Green was trained as a landscape architect and environmental planner, and practiced professionally for many years in North and Central America, South East Asia and Australia, his academic research is multidisciplinary in nature and concerned primarily with environment and behavior issues and the assessment of community values associated with land development and conservation. The overall aim of his research is twofold - to advance theoretical understanding about landscape values and to develop methods for assessing the perceptual consequences of urbanization in fragile environments. He also teaches a design studio that focuses on places of high conservation value that are faced with development pressures.

Dr. Green is co-author of The Green City: Sustainable Homes, Sustainable Suburbs (2005) and is credited with numerous international journal articles, conference papers and book chapters. His most recent research explores links between biophysical attributes associated with the impacts of development in coastal areas and community environmental perceptions, the topic of his forthcoming book - Coastal Towns in Transition. He is also an assessor for research grant proposals for both the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), acts as a regular reviewer for several high impact, leading academic journals and is the leader of the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning's Sustainble Bulit Environments Research Cluster.
