Biography
Dr. Carolyn Whitzman is Senior Lecturer in Urban Planning at the University of Melbourne. Previously, she worked for the City of Toronto on healthy city initiatives. Dr. Whitzman has an international reputation for her work on the prevention of violence. Current research interests include the development of integrated violence prevention initiatives at the local government level, increasing independent mobility for children, and the policy implications of planning for healthy cities. She is a Board Member of Women in Cities International (www.womenincities.org) and was Chair of the Planning for Health and Well-being Project at the Planning Institute of Australia Victoria (www.planning.org.au/vic/) from 2004 to 2006.
