Biography

Judith is a Principal Fellow in the School of Historical Studies (Australian Centre) and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning at RMIT University. She has coedited (with Tony Wood) a collection of articles on social change and war in Australia and New Zealand, An Anzac Muster, and (with John Murphy) a collection of articles on the 1950s, The Forgotten Fifties. She also edited a special issue of Australian Historical Studies on writing the history of women in Australia, Twenty Years On (1996) and a special issue of the Victorian Historical Journal on women's suffrage and political citizenship (2008). Her other interests and published work deal with women and political protest, women and religion, conservative women's organisations, suffrage and postsuffrage movements, temperance reform, wartime propaganda, the social history of venereal disease, and Billy Graham's 1959 crusade. She was the editor of Australian Historical Studies from 1994 to 1999, is currently editor of the Victorian Historical Journal, and is writing (with Marian Quartly) a history of the National Council of Women of Australia.
