Biography


ALEX PERTOUT is Head of the Improvisation Stream at the Faculty of VCA, Melbourne University as well as one of Australia's leading percussionists and with credits on hundreds of albums, soundtracks and jingles is undeniably one of Australia's most recorded musicians.  He has also attained credits with television and theatre orchestras, in countless live performances and as a respected educator.  He has toured Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania with the Australian Art Orchestra, has performed as a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, has recording, performance and television orchestra credits with artists such as Powderfinger, Brazilian guitarist Badi Assad, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, James Morrison, Archie Roach, Japanese fusion band Casiopea, Little River Band w/John Farnham, Hunters & Collectors, Tina Arena and Archie Roach among many others.
 
In the theatre he was featured in ìThe Lion Kingî and has added his percussive touch to movie soundtracks such as Crocodile Dundee, Aladdin and A Few Good Years to name a few.  He has produced cds as a multi-instrumentalist and composer, is the author of a book on rhythm released worldwide by US publishers Mel Bay, directs the ìAlex Pertout Ensembleî and is endorsed internationally by Meinl percussion, Sabian cymbals and Vater sticks.  His latest release ìFrom The Heartî featuring an array of guests including guitarist Mike Stern, conguero Raul Rekow, darabuka master Hossam Ramzy, pianist Mark Levine and guitarist Tommy Emmanuel is out now internationally.
