Biography
In the field of ocular growth and scleral biochemistry, his most significant contribution relates to the 2004 and 2009 papers (J. Biol. Chem.) showing TGF-beta isoform regulation could mediate a number of the key remodeling steps during eye growth. This work was the basis for a National Health and Medical Research Council application which was successfully funded (2007-2009). He has extensive experience in cell culture systems, with particular experience in mammalian cell cuture and 3-D cell culture systems which investigate matrix stresses (Flexcell TissueTrain system). He has also developed a sensitive quantitative real-time PCR technique is used to investigate alterations in ocular gene expression.
Andrew Jobling has presented at National and International Vision Science meetings and was an invited speaker at the 16th International Congress of Eye Research in 2004 as well as presenting at the International Myopia Conference in 2008. Due to his expertise in growth factors and various molecular techniques he was invited to chair the gene expression session at the 2005 Australasian Ophthalmic and Visual Sciences Meeting. He is also a reviewer for several Vision Science journals, such as Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science (highest ranking journal for research articles in Ophthalmology and Vision Science field) and Experimental Eye Research.
