Biography
Dr Marcus Chen is Clinical Associate Professor at the Melbourne School of Population Health, University of Melbourne and Senior Specialist in Sexual Health Medicine at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Alfred Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine and a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. He completed his PhD on the epidemiology of chlamydia at the University of Sydney and has lived and worked in Sydney and London. His postdoctoral work has focused on the epidemiology and control of STIs.
Dr Chen has been the recipient of a number of research awards and scholarships including the NHMRC Postgraduate Medical Research Scholarship and the NHMRC Postdoctoral Public Health Fellowship. Over the last 3 years he has been the principal investigator on research projects examining: chlamydia screening of pregnant women; the health of sex workers in the unregulated sex industry; enhanced partner notification methods to optimize chlamydia control; the safety of a topical microbicide SPL7013; and the development of a tool to assist GPs to identify youth at risk of STIs. Dr Chen has authored and co-authored over 50 papers in the field of sexual health in peer reviewed medical journals.
