Biography
Nelson Lam, Reader in Civil Engineering at The University of Melbourne, is an internationally recognized expert in earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. He initially pratised as a professional structural engineer until 1989 when he joined University of Melbourne for an academic career. Ever since, he has been researching and consulting widely in this field for the past 20 years. He has co-authored over 60 peer reviewed journal publications and was awarded the Chapman Medal (1999) and the Warren Medal (2006) from Engineers Australia and the Best Paper Award (2004-2007) from the ISET Journal of Earthquake Technology for his contributions to this field. He is co-editor of the Electronic Journal of Structural Engineering and undertook a principal role in producing two special issues on the topic of "loading" and "earthquake engineering" for the journal. He also serves as editor for the Annual Technical Conference of the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society. He is member of the sub-committee for developing the new standard for Earthquake Actions in Australia.
