Biography
Professor Michael Davern (PhD, University of Minnesota) holds the Chair of Accounting and Business Information Systems in the Department of Accounting. He joined the University of Melbourne in 2003, from the faculty of the Stern School of Business, New York University. An internationally known speaker, Michael has delivered invited research presentations in six countries and regularly presents to executive audiences both locally and internationally. His scholarly endeavours have been funded by the Australian Research Council and the corporate sector, with grants and support totalling over $1.5 million in cash and kind. He has served as a research grant assessor for the peak government funding body in three countries, as an expert panel member for the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority, as a faculty mentor at the International Conference on Information Systems Doctoral consortium. His teaching experience spans both Information Systems and Accounting across all levels (Undergraduate, MBA/Masters, PhD and Executive).
Prior to entering academia, Michael held roles with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Comalco (Rio Tinto), and Myer in both business/accounting and IT. He has board level experience as a director/trustee with several privately held investment companies and a superannuation fund. He has been recognised for his engagement with industry with a Vice-Chancellor�s Knowledge Transfer Excellence Award for his work with National Australia Bank on �Developing the Risk Professional�.
