Biography
Associate Professor Ann Turnley
Centre for Neuroscience, The University of Melbourne
Ann Turnley graduated from the University of Melbourne with a B.Sc. (Hons) in 1988 and a PhD, undertaken at the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI), in 1992. She was awarded a Lucille P. Markey Charitable Trust Visiting Fellow Award (USA) to undertake a post-doctoral position at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. She returned to the WEHI in 1995 as an Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow and then the Sir Colin and Lady MacKenzie Trust Fellow. A/Prof Turnley moved to the University of Melbourne in 2001 as the Roper Fellow, to head the Neural Regeneration Laboratory in the newly created Centre for Neuroscience. She is currently a National Health & Medical Research Council of Australia Senior Research Fellow, Associate Director of the Centre for Neuroscience and Secretary of the Australian Neuroscience Society. Her primary research interests revolve around understanding signaling mechanisms that may be exploited to promote repair of the nervous system. These include regulation of neural stem cell differentiation and migration and mechanisms that inhibit or promote axonal regeneration and astrocytic gliosis.
