Biography
NHMRC Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Dr Brennan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level B) with the NorthWest Academic Centre, Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne. Her doctoral research was on modifiable risk factors and the social determinants of osteoporosis and knee osteoarthritis with Assoc Prof Julie Pasco (University of Melbourne) and Assoc Prof Anita Wluka (Monash University). She is currently undertaking her NHMRC postdoctoral fellowship with Prof Peter Ebeling at the NorthWest Academic Centre, University of Melbourne. Her research interests include social determinants of noncommunicable diseases, utilization of health services, policy and health systems, and the impact of socioeconomic and psychosocial determinants upon musculoskeletal health. She serves on the Research Review Committee for the Human Research and Ethics Committee of Barwon Health, Geelong, and provided comment on the World Conference on Social Determinants of Health Technical Paper for the World Health Organisation; a document which informed discussion for the development of the Rio Declaration. She has 33 publications (~150 citations, h-Index 8), including in the British Medical Journal, and Journal of Bone and MIneral Research. She is a regular reviewer for peer-reviewed journals, presents her work at (inter)national conferences, and has recently established a Research Seminar Series for Barwon Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit, Barwon Health (2011). She was a regular tutor of Epidemiology for international MPH students and Koori students over a four-year period (2007-10); developed and implemented a Social Research Methods Unit for Social Welfare students (2005-8), and continues to provide supervisory support for HDR students. International collaborations include with the Regional Bone Density Program, University of Manitoba, Canada, and the Institute of Population Ageing, University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
