Find an Expert information for Staff
The Goal of Find an Expert
The initial goal of Find an Expert is to obtain quality information and make this information accessible to the public via the University’s web site. Find an Expert was previously known as the Themis Research Profile. In November 2006, the Themis Research Profile Reference Group recommended the Research Profile be renamed and released to the public in December 2006 prior to a public launch in 2007. Staff with either a research publication, grant or contract or those staff who have entered research expertise and/or international linkages information into Themis are represented on the site.
The possibilities of using the data for individual, departmental and University-wide needs are extensive. For example:
- Matching prospective Research Higher Degree students with potential supervisors
- The International Relations Office requiring staff with specific expertise/linkages to assist in the development of the University’s bilateral and network relationships
- Asialink will be using the data collected on International Linkages and Research Expertise as the Primary source of information in determining which researchers to contact regarding international visitors, collaborations with other universities and other functions and events.
- Human Resources wanting to understand the demographics of the UOM staff cohort, in particular in relation to languages spoken and international partnerships.
- UOM marketing staff and the Alumni office seeking staff with specific research/expertise/linkages to represent UOM at marketing events.
- The Media Office and other media staff members within faculties wanting to write a media release or briefing package and requiring background materials about staff linkages in a particular country or with a particular overseas University.
- Publications Coordinators in departments who are preparing marketing materials that show academic expertise and linkages in particular area.
- Community Groups, associations and the media requesting academic expertise for writing and speaking engagements and opinion pieces.
In 2007, the University Secretariat will use Themis qualifications data as the source of data for its List of Members. Other possible uses in the longer-term include:
- a standard academic CV;
- provision of information for the annual performance review;
- automated updates to department web sites;
- other promotional, marketing and community liaison purposes
